RAM Upgrade

RAM is the computer’s main memory. This helps your computer to multitask effectively, keep more open tabs in your favorite web browser, or switch between different programs. Most people need from 8 to 16GB of RAM, and of course, more is always better!

How Much RAM Do I Need?

Adding more RAM can significantly enhance your system’s multitasking capabilities. If your machine allows, consider upgrading the RAM for smoother performance. How you use your computer influences how much RAM you need, so use this as a guideline.

  • At least 8GB for casual users – Internet browsing, email, listening to music, or watching videos.
  • At least 16GB for typical users – Internet browsing with lots of tabs, email, documents, Microsoft Teams or Zoom, running simple graphics programs, music, videos or multitasking.
  • At least 32GB for professional users – high performance gaming, multimedia editing, high-definition video, graphic design / 3D modelling, intensive multitasking, software development.
How Much RAM is Enough

Is 4GB of RAM enough?

Even in 2024, we still see computers come with a measly 4GB of RAM! Please avoid those.

4GB of RAM is the bare minimum memory needed to run a base computer model. That said, the bare minimum may not provide a productive use of your time as your system will likely slow down every time you run two or more programs like internet browsing, email and some word processing simultaneously.

Cheap computers usually have their RAM soldered and it can’t be upgraded. Choose your next computer wisely, and if you have any concerns, talk to us first! 8GB is the BARE MINIMUM we recommend.
