Slow Performance
Is your computer taking forever to start and launch any programs? Can you make a cup of coffee while it’s booting? How about a few chores around the house?
Computer Too Slow?
Old age creeps up slowly – unless you’re a computer. Then it seems to happen overnight. One day you’re logging in normally and jumping right into the action, the next day booting up takes so long you not only have time to make a cup of coffee, you could have run out to a local takeaway!
Even brand-new computers can sometimes feel like they are slower than your previous one! Even in 2024, many brand-new computers still ship with hard drives – technology straight from the 1980s!
Older computers almost always have hard drives in them – and that’s the major bottleneck. If you consider replacing your computer due to its performance, we have good news for you!
Upgrading it with a Solid-State Drive (SSD) can make your computer feel like brand new again, probably even faster than it ever was! Your computer will work exactly the same way but everything will start and load several times quicker.
Even if your computer already has an SSD, chances are, it’s a slow and cheap model, so an upgrade is still going to make a big difference.
When You Shouldn’t Bother
If your computer is a few years old and you bought it cheap, an upgrade is probably not worth it. Laptops under $800 usually have a few bottlenecks and not going to last more than a few years, so you are better off spending that money towards a better laptop.
These laptops are often not the steal they appear to be. Ever heard the saying, “You get what you pay for”? That’s pretty much the deal here. Manufacturers cut corners to keep costs down, so you end up with a gadget that’s more headache than helper. Your new shiny toys won’t last long, they will be slow and frustrating to use.
Many of these can’t even be upgraded or repaired. Even replacing the hard drive or small SSD with a better one isn’t going to make a meaningful difference, as the rest of the computer components will still be cheap. It’s almost like putting a V8 engine in an economy car, without upgrading the brakes, suspension and chassis.
